USING THE FUSION HUB FOR GOOD

A collection of case studies

CASE STUDY 01:HEALTHCARE FOR THOSE WHO NEED IT MOST

PROBLEM:

Despite its immense promise, healthcare data is difficult to use for clinical research. Progress is impeded by factors such as lack of data standardization, opaque silos, and loss of data fidelity due to compliance-driven anonymization. Furthering healthcare for vulnerable populations is even more challenging due to a lack of representative data. Without supporting data, the political will to help those most in need falters.

DATANOVA’S SOLUTION:

To address this issue, we used the Fusion Hub to make healthcare data friendly for analysis, and the power of Data Fusion to get more data on vulnerable populations. Our solution contained three core tenants:

01 FUSE:

We fused various data sources into a single authoritative source with better coverage of a patient's life in and out of the hospital. We combined open source data with healthcare data to enrich the researcher's understanding.

02 NLP:

We used natural language processing (NLP) on doctors' notes, giving us a hidden source of data that talked about socioeconomic factors when the larger EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems do not.

03 ACCESS:

We enabled granular research on identifiable data, then de-identified the research in real-time.

 CASE STUDY 02: BUILDING RESILIENCE

PROBLEM:

The importance of resilience to natural disasters became evident after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. As New Orleans and its surrounding communities struggled to make a comeback, FEMA & DHS struggled to create a technology that could accurately understand and improve resilience to natural disasters. Even with access to rich datasets, such as storm simulations and government databases, DHS had no way to fuse this information together to create a single picture that could be used to mitigate the impact of natural disasters.

DATANOVA’S SOLUTION:

We used Fusion Hub's advanced knowledge models to solve this problem. We created a model for coastal communities and fused numerous sources to feed it— including maps, social media, and government databases. We created another model for natural-hazards, and fed it using FEMA data on storms and ocean surges. Fusion Hub's knowledge models can be combined in a deductive graph. We combined the coastal communities and natural-hazard models and could now see the effects (e.g. road flooding). Using deduction, we could even see the 2nd and 3rd order effects (e.g. flooding on road-A leads to traffic jam on road-B).On this system, we overlaid knowledge models for risk, resilience, and mitigation actions. This allowed us to use the fused data to estimate resilience (e.g. how long will an airport take to come back online), and to simulate mitigation actions (e.g. which is the best location to setup a storm shelter). This gave DHS the ability to assess the resilience posture of a coastal community, and to direct funding in the most effective ways.

CASE STUDY 03: PROTECTING OUR NATION

PROBLEM:

After rising security concerns in the early 2000s, U.S. National Intelligence had a clear mandate—share all data then fuse it into a single source of truth to find known and unknown threats. This data was collected from thousands of sources, moved fast, and became obsolete fast. Needless to say, traditional warehouses failed quickly.

SOLUTION:

Datanova's Fusion Hub was built in this crucible. The Fusion Hub can fuse structured, unstructured, and semi-structured data in real-time, while still maintaining the highest quality data possible. Lossless unification was perfected to make sure that even the most complex data from any type of source could be assimilated quickly and reliably. Data Trust was added to ensure that all data and insights were fully traceable and transparent. Agile Knowledge Models guaranteed the system could evolve to meet the changing world with maximum power and minimum effort. All enterprises, sooner or later, find the need to use multiple architectural patterns—ETL, ELT, data lakes, and even virtual federations. The Fusion Hub enables all these patterns without contention or messy reconfiguration.

Our mission was to create the perfect "system of systems" that would allow the U.S. Intelligence community to ensure the security of the nation by providing timely, high-quality, and relevant data. Our success in this venture is now allowing us to revolutionize the way data is used in banks, healthcare, retail, and more.

YOUR BUSINESS AND THE FUSION HUB

The Fusion Hub is an innovative tool for fusing data at the speed of business. It can be utilized for the smallest projects (like filling gaps in existing data infrastructures) or largest enterprise project (like a central data system to supercharge data management and utilization). And since data fusion is accretive, any data task can be individually made better with it. In fact, the more tasks you use it for, the more powerful the Fusion Hub system gets.Below are some introduction points from past clients to give you an idea of how the Fusion Hub can help your business:
